When I think about all of the many past influences in my life, my mother is by far the most influential teacher. I looked to her to show me what was to be a woman. I admired her and tried to do what she did. It wasn’t just the lessons she would tell me, but what she did, either right or wrong, it formed a substantial part of my worldview. As a child, I felt her happiness, as well as her trauma and pain. Some lessons were involuntary but learned because of how connected I am to her.
