For most of my life, I assumed that I would live a long and healthy life. As I’ve gotten older, I realize how fragile life is and how much we take it for granted. Every day that we wake up is a blessing that was not promised.
As much as I want to live a long life, it would be a shame to live a long life of unfulfillment. My grandmother once shared with me how much she worked throughout the years and never did the things that she wanted to do. Now that she’s older, she wishes that she took the time in her younger years to do those things. She has so many regrets and grievances.
My maternal grandmother’s favorite quote was, “one day at a time.” It means so much to me now that I understand. As much as I want to live a long life, it’s important for me to make sure that I’m living each day to the fullest. Enjoying the time that I have with my family and friends, now. Cherishing the little things while I have breath in my lungs. If I do live a long life, I will have such a testimony.
